It is snowing and the air is quiet, but crisp. As we walk towards the cabin the only thing that can be heard is the crunch and squeak of the snow under our boots and the slight strain to breathe in the cold air. The front door of the cabin looks as cold and dark as the rest of the night except for the rays of warmth beaming between the threshold and the bottom of the door.

Each of the 5 steps up to the front porch creak as we make or way to the font door. Lifting the metal latch echoes through the door and a clack and creak signal the opening.  As the door open inward the cold air surrounding us swirls with warn air and a fait odor of burning hardwood. The swirling warmth invites us in and waiting is a roaring fire in the fireplace and a well kept, but cozy living area.

A walk in the evening at the end of winter. The late afternoon sun lays on our necks as a warm breeze and the smell of pine leaves and a fresh rain drifts by. Nothing is said, we just walk. We enjoy the small sounds that our feet make on the wet dirt trail.

Under the trees the sun sparkles on the ground through the leaves and lights our way to another hour of quite chats and warm conversation.  We take comfort in knowing we are who we are supposed to be and where we are supposed to be. The creek tickles by, keeping time with nothing in particular, but letting us know that we are the only ones that need to listen. And we do. We listen - quietly, lovingly.
